The Land

As remarkable as is the home, the site it sits upon is every bit its rival.

The 2 ½-acre parcel is located in the private community of Rock Reach within the Town of Yucca Valley. Yucca Valley adjoins Joshua Tree National Park. The parcel sits at about 4,000 feet above sea level and is dotted with majestic piñon, ancient junipers and gnarled desert oaks – and many other species of plants.

But it is the fantastically weathered boulders that command the most attention in this part of the Mojave Desert. The area is a jumble of rounded and cleaved rocks that soar steeply and then plunge into canyons. Most winters produce at least one snowstorm that leaves the trees and terrain an ethereal, otherworldly place.

Wildlife includes coyotes, bobcats, chuckwallas, rabbits, ground squirrels, and several varieties of snakes and a wide array of birds.

The property feels completely removed from civilization. And yet it is only about two hours from the west side of Los Angeles, 35 minutes from Palm Springs and less than 20 minutes to the west entrance of Joshua Tree National Park.

The private community consists of 320 acres, with only six other homes built thus far. To the west of the community sits a large preserve owned by the University of California. To the east are Bureau of Land Management properties. To the north is a large privately held property.  And to the south is steep, unbuildable terrain.  Truly an island unto itself.

The land has been described as being among the best quality, privately held land in all of the Southern California deserts. Upon visiting many have remarked that they felt like they were within the boundaries of Joshua Tree National Park itself.
